16.1.1. Critical Results Workflow

The workflow of critical results is as follow:

1.        The radiologist responsible for the case will mark it as a critical result and rate it according to the severity of the case, using 3 levels (learn more here):
•     High (Immediately life-threating)
•     Moderate (Urgent)
•     Low (Not Immediately life-threating or Urgent)

2.        The information is then sent to the patient’s referring physician by any means (i.e. message, fax, paper, phone, email, etc.).

3.        Once the referring physician has received the information, she or he should:
•     Send an acknowledgment to the radiologist to confirm that the critical results of the patient has been delivered successfully.
Start contacting the patient to follow the right procedure / action as the next step in treatment / recovery.
